PacWest Academy is an independent study cooperative.
I was born in Berkeley, California and grew up in the East Bay, Bay Area. Receiving my K-12 education through an extremely sub-par school district was what inspired me to devote my life to education, specifically mathematics education. After high school I attended Contra Costa Community College in San Pablo, California. Once I completed my AA degree and my two-year state transfer requirements I took a year off from "traditional school" and spent a year to get my basic California acupressure certification from the Berkeley School of Acupressure. Shortly after my certification was completed my wife and I moved to Humboldt county to attend HSU. I eventually graduated with honors in Mathematics Education and received my California Teaching Credential for Secondary Education. Growing up I was a semi-pro aggressive inline skater (I know it sounds lame), loved soccer, and was very much involved with high school theater, but not in the GLEE way; I definitely wasn't singing or dancing. The only hobby I have maintained since childhood is video games and martial arts. Currently I have my second degree black belt in Kajukenbo and a brown belt in Aikido. Another past time I throughly enjoy is discovering the connections between mathematics and my personal interests (I know that sounds lame too). Hopefully I will be able to share my joy of mathematics with my students and help them discover how mathematics is relevant to their personal lives.
