A free public high school for you, or someone you know, having the following elements is now generating an "interested names list" for the Fall 2011 semester. • Challenging coursework and electives • Personalized attention for all students • Extra help for students who need it – and are willing to utilize it • Safe learning environment • Credentialed teachers and strong leaders • User-friendly information • Classes that connect to the real world and 21st Century skills • Blended environment including virtual, independent, onsite, and community college courses • Free public education • Large modern campusAlthough we cannot confirm the affiliation of the school, the planned early college high school model will offer a blended environment including a personalized approach to learning for each student. Early college high schools are small schools designed so that students can earn both a high school diploma and an Associate’s degree or up to two years of credit toward a Bachelor’s degree. Early college high schools have the potential to improve high school graduation rates and better prepare students for high-skill careers by engaging all students in a rigorous, college preparatory curriculum and compressing the number of years to a college degree. This particular model will offer live online classes with teachers specifically trained in delivering distance education, onsite class choices, and college level class choices – both live and online, and independent study courses. Each student will choose, with the assistance of their academic advisors and their parents or guardians, a personalized plan of education that best suits their goals and their specific educational background. For example, some students may choose to take mathematics live online first thing in the morning, then drive to our campus for their English course and take an Art course at the college level in the afternoon on two days a week. The other two days they may have another schedule entirely. Another student may choose to take all of their courses online, while another student may choose to take all of their courses on site.
